  • Riz MC Interview + Video for DazedDigital.com

Riz MC is a highly talented, motivated and inspirational individual known not only for his music but for his acting in films like Shifty and Road To Guantanamo and even Charlie Brookers Dead Set. I first came across him not with his acting but I went down to The Social for the filming of a TV pilot (a privalidge invitation and excellent night shame the TV show never happened). Riz was one of the three acts playing and it absolutely blew my mind with the power and vitriol of the lyrics and the beats and sounds behind them were so strong.

That was a while ago now, and with a recorded album on Cross Town Rebels behind him the emphasis is on live events already once this year throwing a cross media terrace party at The Southbank Centre he is now taking over the Southbank Centre this weekend previewing the new album in an event that is part rave, interactive art experience theatre and gig.

Head over to DazedDigital.com to read my interview with Riz and see an exclusive video.

    Jakeone Stingray EP

This is already number one in the Juno electro chart some excellent solid techno from Jakeone (think we’ve previously sung the merit’s of his band Toob here before). Solid and clicking techno in track one and three gets really dark and progressive but still with that definite click. You can really fell the bounching dancefloor potential. The other 2 tracks much more minimal and with a 2 step beat still very much electro and refreshing.

Grab em now and preview on Juno.

Plus here’s his set from All Your Base Are Belong To Us from just the other week it’s good stuff.

    Three Strikes

So this seems to be happening, the proposal that file sharers will have their internet cut off wihtout a trial in a court of law. this has been such a long story and a very complicated issue I will try and keep my opinion brief and focused on the point that is fairly positive towards music but not to this freedom taking legislation.

There are already some unjust things that have been happening and are only just coming to an end in America brought about by the RIAA where rediculous amounts of money has been seized off citizens in the courts. IT amounts to extortion to begin with as most people pay a fine of up to $7000 when they are first approaced by the RIAA and that means that nowhere along the line has their crime been proved basically amounting to extortion. Those who take the case to court tend to lose as the mcuh publiscised Joel Tenenbaum case. You sould read about it it’s pretty sickening.

And the worst thing is that the record companes profiting from this are the ones with the output that is of no interest to most of us. Many of them have been making money out of music for years as commodity it’s not really worth talking about.

Personally I look around me and am very inspired and warmed with what I see many people doing with music. It almost seems like a different realm to the one being argued about. I know many people putting out records they don’t make any money but they are proud of their product. I think it would be nice if they did make money and could give up the day job, but we can’t have everything in life. (Also I would like to insert the question of the value system that puts so much on luxury and wealth as a lifestyle and goal here.) And we can’t expect a piece of government legislation to sort out public perception and habit really really really publishing in music is moving somewhere else and we need to figure out where it is going. I think if people like this are making such quality products selling them to people who care, why are others still making average products trying to sell them to people who don’t really care much?

It’s all very annoying and some music organisations are seeking to control the way we consume without offering anything good in return. And now are threatening to take away our communications and what is fast becoming almost a basic living requirement – the internet. They have absolutely no right to do so.

    Felix’s Machines At The Barbican

Felix Thorn will be improvising live in the Foyer of The Barbican this Saturday for free with his machines in situ.

Each improvisation will be 15 minute long periodically throughout the afternoon and evening at: 12:30, 15:00, 17:00, 19:00 and 20:45.

Felix’s Machines from Felix Thorn on Vimeo.

Here’s an oldish video I’ve found to illustrate what’s going on if you haven’t seen the machines in action then prepare to be amazed. If you’ve not come across Felix before then he has created his own sculptures to play his electronica compositions through, they look incredible and hearing this music played on organic instruments like this is beautiful. Also check this previous null+void post for photos of the machine’s latest incarnations.

Radioactive Man Mix for Data Transmission

More Radioactive Man today…This is a really lovely mix electro, acid, techno of the highest caliber. There’s lots of new tracks to look forward to being released next year, last year’s Growl was brilliant I am still listening to it now as well as the Gnash and Gnarl remix EPs.

Go to podcast page for interview and download.

As for the Data Transmission podcast series there’s a couple others that might be worth downloading:

    Berlin’s Kiki

    Tim Green

    Richard Wigglesworth Tudor Acid 404

A reflection now on the Tudor Acid series with remixes coming from both Radioactive Man and Richard Wigglesworth.

Richard is remixing here under the monicer Merri Portland which is the next move for Richard Wigglesworth as we heard back in his null+void BROADCAST contribution with a more progressive and dancefloor sound.

The Radioactive Man remix on Tudor Acid 404 sets the piece to a slick and tight electro beat as expected, and very soft high hats softening the groove up. Only a few acid lines are chosen to lead the melody contrasting to Richard’s remix but both as strong as the other.

You can buy Tudor Acid 404 now from Juno Download.
